Imagine if you had an unlimited budget. With Christmas approaching, you might decide to treat yourself to some extravagant renovations along with the usual Christmas gifts. What would they be? Here are five ideas.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a lap pool in your backyard or even indoors? Use it to stay fit and to relax. A lap pool doesn't have to be just a long, narrow pool. Since you have an unlimited budget, you can install a spa as well and maybe an area where the kids can splash about. While you're at it, why not install a waterfall and enjoy your pool even when you're not using it.
"But we don't have enough room for a lap pool," you say? No worries, install resistance jets and you can swim against the current. A lap pool with resistance jets can be perfect as an indoor pool.
Do you like bowling, but don't like having to drive all the way to a bowling alley just to practice? Why not install a bowling alley at home? Get all the practice you want at home. When you meet your friends at the local bowling alley, they'll be amazed by how good a bowler you've become.
You might need to put this on your wish list, but you won't have to wait too long. As we mentioned in What's next in home technology and automation, a robot chef is scheduled for release in 2017. A British company, Moley Electronics, is ready to start selling the robotic chef and it already has 2000 recipes for you to choose from.
The chef comes complete with a cooktop and oven. If you ever feel like cooking the "old-fashioned" way, the robotic arm folds away when not in use.
Do you get tired of having to go to the bottle shop every time you want a bottle of wine? Why not install a home wine cellar? You'll definitely impress your guests when you take them down to your wine cellar to help you choose a bottle of wine.
You can always install your wine "cellar" in a more prominent location. You may need to close it off, though, and add temperature control. Wine likes a cool environment, but since you have an unlimited budget, keeping it at the right temperature won't be a problem.
There's no better way to relax than in a sauna or steam room. You can have your sauna custom built and feel like you're in a Scandinavian deluxe hotel every day of the week.
Does a steam room suit you better? Recreate a Turkish steam room in your own home. For that matter, since money is no object, why not have both? Then you won't kick yourself if you decide you'd rather sit in a steam room than a sauna this evening.
What else can you think of? How about a home movie theatre or a putt putt golf course. The sky's the limit when you're imagining your renovator's extravagant Christmas list.
