Recessed Walls

Last Updated Dec 6, 2010 · Written by Jaclyn Fitzgerald

Do you need a little extra space in your home or are you looking for the perfect way to display something?  Consider using a recessed wall – you'd be surprised at how versatile they can be.

Recessed Walls for Saving Space

If you are short on space to begin with, the last thing you want to do is to bring in more furniture than is absolutely necessary as it can just make the space feel even smaller.  If this is your situation, why not have a recessed wall installed?  A recessed wall helps you to make use of the space that is inside your walls and stops you from filling in valuable floor space. Recessed walls can have shelves installed for an in-wall unit that is perfect for storing things such as DVDs, books, and ornaments.  You can get rid of your TV entertainment unit altogether by mounting your TV on the recessed wall, and installing peripherals such as DVD players inside the wall or on a shelf inside the recessed wall.  In this way you can have a fully featured entertainment system without taking up any space!

Recessed Walls as a Feature

As well as saving space, you can also use a recessed wall as a feature inside the home.  The recess in your wall can be as large or as small as you want.  Use the recess to display a valued piece of artwork, treasured photos, or ornaments and knick knacks – it's up to you!  To create even more of a feature piece, you can paint the inside of the recess a different colour or install down lights inside the recess.
