Termites and other pests don't respect borders. In an exhaustive survey conducted by the CSIRO, it was discovered that termites took up residence and did damage everywhere in Australia. Out of 1984 dwellings in New South Wales, 35 percent reported termite damage somewhere inside or outside of the house. In Queensland, 45.1 percent of 933 properties included in the random survey experienced termite damage. Australia-wide, the figure was 35.6 percent.
How Much Does a Pest Inspection Cost?*
A pest inspector will discover if pests are present in or around the building and if so, how extensive the damage may be. You can use this information to negotiate a cheaper selling price or may decide against buying the property and look elsewhere.
Pest inspection services charge a variable rate that depends on the size of the property and/or the level of inspection you require. Typically, a pre-purchase pest inspection starts at around $250. Some services are qualified to do combined building and pest inspections. Expect to pay around $500 for a combined inspection. When you consider that over one third of homes are at risk, having a pre-purchase pest inspection is a very good investment indeed.
