Guide to Prefabricated Home Extensions

Last Updated Sep 23, 2011 · Written by Jaclyn Fitzgerald

If your home is just a little too small for your family, don’t go to all the time and expense of moving – add an extension!  There is now an easy way to add a high quality extension onto your home, and that’s by using a prefabricated home extension.  If you haven’t heard of them before, here’s everything you need to know.  To make enquiries about adding a prefabricated extension to your home, talk to your local home extensions builder.

What is a Prefabricated Home Extension?

A prefabricated home extension is an extension that is fully made off site in a factory and that is completely finished.  This means that it comes with flooring, lighting, paint, fixtures, and so forth.  What exactly is included depends on what type of extension it is.  For example, if it is a bedroom extension, you will get a fully fitted out bedroom that just needs furniture and even an ensuite bathroom if it needed.  If you are extending the living area and adding a new kitchen, the kitchen will even come complete with appliances.  The extension is simply built onto the home in the desired position.

Benefits of Prefabricated Home Extensions

There are several benefits to using prefabricated extensions in your home.  Firstly, is the speed that’s involved. The extension is fully built to specifications in the factory which may take a few weeks.  However, once the extension is complete, it just takes a matter of days to install it onto your home.  This is great as you won’t have to pay tradespeople a lot of money to complete the installation.  You will however need a plumber and electrician to connect all the plumbing and wiring.  The plumbing and wiring is already included in the prefabricated extension; it’s just a matter of ensuring that they are connected to the mains water supply, the stormwater and sewage systems, and the main electricity supply.

Prefabricated home extensions are also incredibly versatile. This is because they are available in a range of standard designs (e.g. bedrooms, bathrooms, etc) or they can be completely customised to your requirements.  You can have exactly what you want built off site and delivered fully complete.  The extensions are also made to an incredibly high standard and there is very little chance of something going wrong, as the factory building process is so strict.  You will be assured of the use of high quality materials and finishes.
