Guide to Buying a Pop Up Gazebo

Last Updated Oct 18, 2011 · Written by Jaclyn Fitzgerald

If you’re after the ultimate in portable shade solutions or just want an easy form of shade in your backyard, you can’t go past a pop up gazebo.  If you’re not sure what to look for or which one to choose, we’ve put together this guide to get you started.  For anything else you need to know or to have a look at what’s available on the market, speak to your local gazebos supplier.

Look for a Pop Up Gazebo That Meets Your Needs

The first thing that you have to do when buying a pop up gazebo is making sure that you have one that meets all your needs.  That is, is it big enough for you and the people that will be using it?  Pop up gazebos come in different sizes from as small as one metre by one metre through to three metres by three metres and larger.  Don’t just think about the people that have to fit underneath as well – take into consideration any chairs or furniture, picnic rugs, eskies, beach towels and so forth.  You want the gazebo to be a comfortable size.  Another thing to check with your pop up gazebo is how many height settings it has.  A pop up gazebo with a number of different height settings will be a lot more flexible to use. For example, you can raise it for taller people or items, or lower it to stop the sun from getting in your eyes later in the day.

How Easy Is It To Erect the Pop Up Gazebo?

Of course, one thing that you don’t want to overlook when buying a pop up gazebo is how easy it is to erect. As they are “pop up”, all pop up gazebos should be relatively easy to put up. You shouldn’t have to worry about fitting things such as poles or connectors.  Some pop up gazebos work by pushing the gazebo frame upwards until spring loaded bolts lock the canopy in position.  Others will require you to lock a few pins in position.  Basically, have a look at how complicated it is to open the gazebo, and make your decision based on this. You should understand how to do it, and it should be easy enough to do alone if required.

What Accessories Does it Come With?

When you are buying a pop up gazebo, you’ll want to check what accessories it comes with, as these really can make your life so much easier.  For example, you’ll at least want a carry bag that will hold the gazebo when it is not being used.  Ideally, the bag will have a strap so that you can take it to your location without any hassles!  Also make sure that the pop up gazebo comes with a waterproof canopy. All pop up gazebos do come with a canopy of course but choosing one that is waterproof means that you’ll never get caught out when it’s raining, and you won’t have to scramble to put things away before they get wet and damaged!
