It’s a familiar situation – you’ve got two cars but only have space to store one as you only have a single garage so one car has to stay out in the driveway or on the street. However, there is an easy way to convert your single car garage into a double garage, without having to spend a fortune on extending it. Here’s what you need to know.
The easiest way to convert your garage to give you space for two cars is by using a car lift. You simply drive one care onto the car lift and raise it and, once it has been raised, you then park the second car underneath.
The car lift is a platform that can be lifted and lowered as needed. You can stay in the car as it’s lifted as you can easily get down once it’s raised or you can get out of the car and then have it lifted, it’s up to you. The car lift itself is available in different sizes such as tall wide, tall narrow, short wide, and short narrow, and it is capable of lifting up to 5,400 kilograms, which is more than enough for most everyday cars.
When you are choosing your car lift, you should take into account the cars that you have as you want the cars to fit well not only on the lift but underneath.
While car lifts are an incredibly convenient alternative to having to park out on the street or extending your garage, there is one thing that you need to be aware of and this is that car lifts cannot be used if you have a tall car, as there is generally not enough space underneath the ceiling. Keep this in mind if you have a taller car such as a four wheel drive or even a ute. Also, if your garage has low ceilings, you may need to see if these can be raised before using the car lift. The manufacturer or supplier will be able to give you more information on this.
