Choosing a Mirror Bathroom Cabinet

Last Updated Nov 2, 2011 · Written by Jaclyn Fitzgerald

The bathroom mirror is a necessity but why not make it really work for you?  You can do this by installing a mirror bathroom cabinet – a cabinet and a mirror in one!  If this idea has tickled your fancy, here is everything that you need to know. For more info, just speak to your local bathroom supplier.

What is a Mirror Bathroom Cabinet?

A mirrored bathroom cabinet is one that is mounted on the wall and that has mirror doors, so that the doors act as the mirror when they are closed.  They are usually quite slimline and they can be mounted on the wall or semi or fully recessed depending on your preferences.  Mirror bathroom cabinets are an excellent way of adding additional storage space to your bathroom, or they can serve as your primary cabinet if you are short on space, due to the fact that they take up no floor space at all!

Choose the Style and Features that You Need

Mirror bathroom cabinets come in a surprising range of styles so you’ll need to choose the one that you think will best suit your needs.  Mirror cabinets can be made of a moisture resistant material with a veneer on top and the mirrors on the front. However, they can also be stainless steel, backlit, fog resistant and so forth.  Of course, you’ll need good moisture resistance, being in the bathroom and all, but additional features such as backlighting and fog resistance will make sure that the mirror is always clear and that you have the best lighting for grooming.  You’ll find that the actual mirrored doors come in a range of different configurations as well.  Mostly, they will be sliding doors or they will open outward on a hinge but you can choose if there is one door, two doors, three doors or even more, and you can also choose how they open.  This allows you to choose the cabinet that best suits the amount of space that you have in the bathroom.

Check the Storage Space

Of course, it is not just the mirror that you need to think about! The mirror bathroom cabinet is an important piece of bathroom storage and thus you need to make sure that it does just that – stores your items neatly and safely.  Make sure that the cabinet is big enough and wide enough to hold all your daily items such as shampoo bottles, medication if needed, brushes, toothpaste, and so on.  It is a good idea to get a cabinet that’s actually a bit deeper than you need. After all, there’s nothing worse than having it be too narrow and constantly be trying to balance your items inside so that they don’t fall whenever you open the doors, or not be able to close the doors at all!
