A backyard studio is usually a shed or granny flat you put to good purpose by building or renovating it to serve as a studio. A backyard studio can be a better solution than converting a spare bedroom or working in your garage. Your backyard studio can be a sanctuary away from the house where you can immerse yourself in your work or hobby. Here are just five uses for a backyard studio, but you will probably think of others that would be perfect for you.
Artist's love to paint in solitude. They can also be a little messy, but it won't be a problem if you have a dedicated backyard artist's studio. Your studio doesn't have to be large, but it should get plenty of natural light. Install a door with a window and perhaps even full length windows at the sides of the door. Also think about installing windows at the back and/or sides of the shed to be sure you get all the natural lighting you need. You'll love your backyard artist's studio more if you make the exterior colourful and inviting.
You love working with wood, but don't enjoy working in the garage. The solution might be a backyard shed. You'll want it to be large enough for your tools, but it doesn't have to be huge. A shed with garage-style doors is ideal for this type of studio. You can easily get timber inside the shed and finished furniture outside the shed and you can leave the doors open while you're working. A cement slab is the best flooring material for a backyard workshop. Extend the floor and add a patio cover and you'll have even more room to work or relax with a cuppa when you're not working

Insulate the walls and ceiling to make it more comfortable and add heating or air conditioning so you can use your yoga retreat all year long.
If you love gardening, it makes sense to have a gardener's studio in your backyard. Build a workbench under a window and install shelves for your pots and other small items. Hooks on the wall can hold your small gardening tools. You can even build a window box to serve as a mini-greenhouse for your seedlings and cuttings.
