Timber Frames and Trusses

Timber frames and trusses are very common in Australian homes.  As well as manufacturing frames and trusses to standard sizes, it is often possible to customize the frame or truss to use bigger timber sizes or smaller spacings.  Frames and trusses suppliers can provide these for any home, whether it is a simple or complicated design.

Common timbers that are used for frames and trusses include:

  • Pine – this is the most popular timber for house frames.  It can be used in most situations and has been kiln dried and sized in order to prevent shrinking or warping.
  • CCA Treated Pine – this timber has been treated using copper chrome arsenate (CCA). CCA stops fungi, timber diseases, and pests from attacking and is used in areas where there is a known problem with pests such as termites.
  • LOSP Treated Pine – LOSP stands for Light Organic Solvent Preservatives, and this treatment deters pests and diseases.  With this treatment, the dimensional stability of the timber remains the same, meaning that all manufacturing processes can be carried out before treatment, eliminating the need to dispose of treated waste products.

Steel Frames and Trusses

Steel is a great option for frames and trusses as it is one of the strongest building materials, meaning that the home will have extra strength and durability.  Also, it will not burn, shrink or rot, which is beneficial in many areas of Australia.  It is also termite proof.  However, steel is usually more expensive than timber.  Frames and trusses are engineered to the exact dimensions required thanks to a computerized program, meaning that the house will be “true”, allowing doors and windows to fit perfectly.

Frames and trusses suppliers provide the following services:

  • the supply and manufacture of roof trusses, wall frames, joists, flooring, fascias
  • the supply of eave materials, treated pine products, bracing and plates, and ancillaries
  • calculating the appropriate shape, size, and load etc of frames and trusses using a computer program and your floor plan
  • free quotes
  • manufacture to Australian standards
