NICK INGERSON:

Nick Ingersons practice was established in Adelaide in 1969. specialising predominantly in domestic architecture. Nick moved to Vienna in 1971 and practiced with a Viennese firm before starting his own studio. specialising in inner city retail and commercial projects.

Nick returned to Australia in 1976 and concentrated on retail and domestic projects. Branch offices were set up in Alice Springs and Darwin to develop housing applicable to arid and tropical regions.

Low energy designs were developed for ranger housing for the northern territory parks and wildlife service. These prefabricated, totally self sufficient, low energy demand houses were constructed in remote regions throughout the central arid and top end tropical regions of the northern territory.

The systems for these houses form the basis of current environmentally sustainable designs. Returning to Adelaide, the practice focused on sea-front housing, concentrating on maritime resistant methods, materials and designs specific to these locations.

Relocation to the hills saw the inclusion of sloping sites and bushfire controls as significant design influences.

Currently, the practice focuses on domestic architecture, including alterations, additions and new housing along with the growing world awareness of our impact on the environment.

Awareness of sustainability and conservation has become major considerations within the building industry.

With the introduction in 2003 of energy rating for residential buildings, the practical application of this awareness has become a reality. Nick Ingerson is a registered house energy rating assessor and qualified independent technical expert accredited in the application of first rate software in residential energy assessment.
