Welcome to Shikara Design
Shikara Design is a continuously changing showroom and warehouse of unique art, rugs, decor and furniture from the East. We have decades of experience in importing the finest handcrafted rugs using techniques of dyeing, spinning and weaving which go back hundreds of years. We can help you choose an affordable rug from our huge selection of Kazakhs, Khal Mohammedis, Turkomans, Balouch, Pak Bokhara to name a few. We have rugs from small to huge 12 square metre roomsize, entry nmats to hall runners.
We have our own furniture production in Jodphur, Rajasthan and also in Java so our range of hardwood and timber furniture is huge and ever-changing. Daybeds,Cabinets, sideboards, chests, tables, benches, beds and bedsides...we do the lot. We are also able to design and produce larger scale architectural pieces both for home and commercial use. We specialise in consolidating container loads from India both at the retail and wholesale level of business, and are happy to work with you in your design and decor ideas. Architectural Pieces
We carry a constant range of columns and old doors, arches and frames. Shikara Design and Kasbah Imports is continuously collecting architectural features and décor items. From old doorways, columns and arches, iron gazebos, cornices to ironware lanterns, brass sculpture doorknobs, the feeling of ‘ancience’ is coloured by vibrance of rugs, saris, curtains, covers and cushions. Whatever your design need, be it architectural or décor, we can source or make for you, usually delivering in less than three months.
We are also in the enviable position of being manufacturers with a purpose built factory in Jodphur India shipping worldwide.There we have a group of skilled carpenters and artists, producing Indian furniture and architectural pieces from kiln dried hardwoods. Many are made using old pieces such as doors and columns, making every piece a unique piece. We commonly receive commissions for domestic and larger projects.
We are often onsite in India co-ordinating the consolidation of containers that may contain many elements opf our business. We also have the facility there to provide 4 star accomodation for our clients who may wish to come there and work with us to consolidate containers which we will ship anywhere in the world
Furniture Stock
Stock items include shelves, tables, coffee tables, sideboards, consoles, cupboards, daybeds, tv cabinets, chests, boxes, cd cabinets, wrought iron wine cabinets, light fittings and candleabras. The unique service we provide is the ability to provide Indian furniture at call, to suit your taste and requirements. You may select from pieces we already have in stock, or you may request samples in other sizes. Provide us with photographs, designs and/or drawings of a selected piece and we can quote you a price and delivery time. Furniture is made from solid Indian hardwoods, sheesham and teak, utilising old doors, windows, columns and other recycled materials.
Our Indian furniture is all made from recycled teak or top grade aged sheehsam wood, a hard wood which doesn’t warp, split or crack – the aging of the timbers giving it a rustic appeal. Colourful saris, curtains, cushions, bedspreads and wallhangings add exotic colour to any décor with a richness only found in the East.
At another level we can work with you in design and concept development, whether it be for building, home or shop. Many of our products can be built in to create themes, and we welcome the chance to work with architects, developers and shop designers. We can help you manifest your design and décor dreams. We also have a unique relationship with the tribal people of Afghanistan and Central Asia, who hand craft exquisite tribal carpets, rugs, hall runners, cushions, kilims, donkey bags.
Carpets and Rugs
Carpets like Turkoman, Khal Mohammed, Baluch, Chobi, Shiraz, Nain, Quilano, Uzbek, Kordi, Kharghai are only some of our fine collection. We specialise in Khal Mohammedi, Kharghai and Chobi carpets and are regularly in the region buying directly from the source of these beautiful earth coloured rugs.
Statues
Our suppliers also include some of the finest brass artists in India - we are happy to have found brass craftsmen who can reproduce some of the classic bronze sculptures of the Chola period (around 9th and 10th centuries), examples of which are only found in museums these days. Our brass pieces are high quality castings with individual tooling and shaping to make each piece a unique classic. Buddha, Dancing Shiva and Ganesha, Parvarti, Kali and Tara, as well as other Tibetan classics from Nepal to create an altar, inspiration or purely to add a touch of the mystic to the home or office.
We are creating statues made from bronze/brass from 10cms up to 2 metres. We also have a wide range of mythological creatures, elephants, tigers, camels and other animals as well as brass door fittings, handles, horns, bells and singing bowls. We have just shipped a range of large hand-tooled brass pots from the Punjab.
