About us
Supple Design is in the business of making architecture. We live and breathe it. We are a small, cutting-edge practice committed to providing a very high level of service to our clients.
The process of design and construction can be daunting and our job is to make it as pleasant and exciting as possible. Whatever stage you’re at we can assist you in formalizing your ideas whilst stretching the bounds of what you might have thought possible.
At its simplest level, our job is to help raise the experience of everyday living; even a little. Putting a window where a room really needs one. Making sure its height, orientation or the way it opens and what it opens on to is just right and complements every other part of the house. Good design takes lots of patience, lots of experience and hard work and a lot of creative and rigorous thinking to find the right, or most appropriate solution.
Services and Stages
We begin each project with an obligation free consultation, either in our own studios in Surry Hills or on site. This is a chance to meet one another and see if we are on the ‘same page’. Your ideas and personality, the way you live and the way you want to live are as important as the particularities of budget or site.
Our role
• Develop design options with you through to a final design solution.
• Develop and formalize that design and guide it through the Council Process.
• 'Document' the design (meaning develop it with other consultants like an engineer and finalise the design through drawings at different scales and a written specification stating every material, finish and product that is to be used) ready for tendering with builders.
• Find suitable builders and handle the tendering and negotiation process.
• Guide and administer the building process through to completion.

• Ecologically sustainable design. This is simply 'not negotiable', and an understanding of the source and health of materials, products, finishes and the possibilities of active and passive environmental systems is part of every step and design decision along the way.

• Simple (not simplistic) design solutions. A good building seemingly effortlessly solves all the difficulties and complexities. A bad building will do the opposite.
