SERVICES

A leadlight window adds colour and beauty, while creating privacy, light and ambience to your home.

Let me create something of quality and beauty to your individual specifications.

Your home is an expression of your uniqueness and personality. Leadlight is suitable for all styles of home from Federation to modem. Homes built in the Federation era often included leadlight as a feature - these can be restored or new windows added to create authenticity.

In modem homes, leadlight designs can be pictorial, geometric, abstract or floral. They can incorporate bright colours or pastels and glass can be opaque, translucent or transparent. Textured glass provides privacy and a window using colourless glass only can look stunning and elegant.

Christine has had plenty of experience, working from specific ideas and requests and is happy to research any subject, so that the nature of your Individual character is reflected in the design and colour choice of your window or panel.

As well as windows and door panels, Christine is happy to create a special lamp or mirror , which reflects your individuality. Whereas her windows and mirrors are constructed using lead, she prefers to use the copperfoil method for her lamps. This is the method, perfected by Tiffany, which produces a more lightweight structure and allows for finer detail of design.

What is authentic lead light?

The oldest leadlight windows were created for 10th century European churches. Each piece of glass was cut to shape, then painstakingly fitted into channeled lead and then soldered. I continue this tradition of authentic lead lighting.

No overlays - what does this mean?

Some businesses offer the look of leadlight at a cheaper cost (not always true). They may use one of two methods;

(1) Thin layers of coloured film are fixed to a basic sheet of glass and adhesive lead strips are shaped around these and soldered.

This is Stained glass overlay.

(2) Adhesive lead is attached to the sheet of basic glass and the shapes created are flooded with coloured glass paints. These are not permanent and will fade in time.

This is known as Reproduction stained glass.

In my Traditional Leadlight, the colours will last for eternity.
