Don't just paint your roof - Energy star roof restoration - The only australian made energy star approved heat reflective roof coating

The Australian Government and State and Territory Governments are cooperating through the national ENERGY STAR program to encourage the use of energy efficient Products at home and in business. ENERGY STAR is hoping to inspire the construction industry to action in 2008, by issuing a unique Green Resolution to its customers. The Company is determined to actively reduce its impact on the environment, and hopes that its innovative action plan will motivate others to reduce their carbon emissions. “2008 will be seen as the year of public enlightenment on the link between burning fossil fuels and global warming, we hope that 2008 will see awareness turn to action, as individuals and businesses begin to change their practices, and use and purchase initiatives that will help to combat global warming.”

By 2016, all new homes will have zero carbon emissions. This is the message from the government; an ambitious target, which will take a lot of hard work, but builders won’t have to do it alone. As cutting emissions of greenhouse gases, and reducing the effects of global warming and climate change have become more and more important, the contribution of the construction sector has come under increasing scrutiny. Houses produce nearly 56 per cent of Australia’s total (energy-related) carbon emissions; The average yearly carbon emission for an Australian home is 14 tones! Pumping millions of tones of carbon into the atmosphere each year, so it is hardly surprising that they have become the target of reform. Promoting energy efficiency in industry and in the household sector is another measure being undertaken by governments through the ENERGY STAR PROGRAM to reduce Australia's greenhouse gases. ENERGY STAR qualified roof products reflect more of the sun's rays. This can lower roof surface temperature by up to 38C, decreasing the amount of heat transferred into a building. ENERGY STAR qualified roof products can help reduce the amount of air conditioning needed in buildings, and can reduce peak cooling demand by 10–15 percent saving the average household $600 to $800 per year.

As a result of ongoing research and development into heat reflective coatings Astec developed a new technology of colour infused nano ceramics that reflect heat by selective reflection of infrared light. This technology has enabled us to offer dark colour exterior coatings that reflect fully 50% of Solar energy and provide positive results for our environment and consumers. The successful development of Energy Star® enables you to make choices to provide positive contributions to our global environment with reductions in Urban Heat, Smog and through it’s energy efficiency, help reduce Co2 emissions. Our environment is constantly changing and we are all making choices that have an impact now and into the future.

Choose Energy Star® with confidence and Paint with Pride.

What is an ENERGY STAR qualified roof product?

It is a reflective roof product that lowers roof surface temperature by up to 38°C, thereby decreasing the amount of heat transferred into a building's interior. ENERGY STAR qualified roof products save money and energy by reducing the amount of air conditioning needed to keep a building comfortable.

Why is ENERGY STAR interested in increasing the reflective roofing market?

Ninety percent of the energy in Australia is generated by burning fossil fuels, which creates the air pollution associated with smog, acid rain, and global climate change. By reducing the amount of energy needed to cool buildings, ENERGY STAR qualified roof products help to reduce the production of these air pollutants. Additionally, reflective roof products can help reduce the “heat island effect,”a phenomenon in which cities can be 5 to 10°C warmer than the surrounding countryside. Such heat islands occur, in large part, because many buildings and paved surfaces are designed with dark materials that absorb heat from the sun. This heat is released at night, causing the air temperature to remain high. The resulting elevated temperature leads to an increased demand for air conditioning in buildings, increased fuel use for vehicle air conditioning, increased levels of smog, and associated increased levels of heat-related and smog-related health problems. Installing reflective roofs helps reduce the heat island effect, decreasing the amount of smog in the air and benefiting the entire community.

What are the benefits of ENERGY STAR qualified roof products?

Benefits of ENERGY STAR qualified roof products include: Saves Money and Energy. According to EPA, billions are spent annually in Australia to air condition buildings ENERGY STAR qualified roof products reduce the amount of air conditioning needed in buildings, and can reduce energy bills by up to 50 percent. Downsizes Cooling Equipment. A reflective roof can reduce peak cooling demand by 10-15%. As a result, the home or building owner may be able to purchase a smaller, more efficient, and less expensive cooling system. Decreases Pollution in Urban Areas. Reduced energy demand means less burning of fossil fuels, which results in less pollution from power plants. Also, ENERGY STAR qualified roof products help to reduce the “heat island effect,” in which dark, heatabsorbing buildings and paved areas make the air in urban areas hotter, and more smoggy. Increases Roof Product Life. ENERGY STAR qualified roof products maintain a more constant temperature and reduce thermal shock, which occurs when cool rain hits a hot roof, causing a sharp drop in temperature. During temperature changes, a roof expands and contracts, causing stress and degrading the roof.
