COLORBOND ® is a brand name (Trade Mark) of Bluescope Steel which defines the quality standard that they and they alone apply when producing pre-painted steel coils. When it comes to quality in this area Bluescope are a world class benchmark leader and whenever the end product is made from COLORBOND ® pre-painted steel a certain minimum standard of quality and fade resistance is assured.
There are many steel and pre-painted steel producers in the world, some of which produce a cheaper range but do not necessarily match the quality or even the paint film thickness of COLORBOND ® Pre-Painted Steel. GramLine is a staunch supporter of the use of Bluescope COLORBOND ® Pre-Painted High tensile Steel in our fencing product range.
Bluescope previously known as BHP Steel has been producing painted steel coils since 1966 and has held the trade mark COLORBOND ® since 1977. Having over 90% control of the total steel market in Australia and even higher in painted coil steel since the 60's, Bluescope have been able to successfully promote their brand names especially COLORBOND ® .
Parallel to the birth of the Colorbond brand in the 70's was the development of pre-painted steel privacy fencing and as the demand for this fencing product increased a number of generic names were tried for example screen fencing, boundary fencing or privacy fencing, however the name that has become the common term is Colorbond. Australians being Australians always shorten every possible word or name they can and as Colorbond is one word this has become the GENERIC term to describe painted metal fencing.
While not being to the same degree all painted metal products regardless of the paint process or metal base are regularly referred to as Colorbond………(roofing, walling, guttering, garden & pool etc)
