SERVICES
Welcome to M2architecture
M2architecture is a dynamic architectural practice based in Hobart, Tasmania.
We enjoy good architecture with a passion!
The practice commenced in 1992. At that time the principal - David Menzies - commenced trading as David Menzies Architect. The practice incorporated in 1997 and was renamed M2architecture in 2005.
Prior to 1992, David Menzies was a principal in a leading architectural practice, and was responsible for the design of some significant multi-storey buildings within the Hobart CBD.
M2a’s project profile encompasses architecture and interior design for education, commercial, religious, residential, and light industrial buildings - we work on new buildings and refurbishments.
With around 30 years of professional experience to draw upon we are able to handle projects of all sizes within the local context.
Joint Venture arrangements are in place with a similar practice where the program and or project scale requires additional resources.
Our clients are corporations, government agencies, private institutions, private individuals and community groups.
We aim for excellence across all aspects of our practice, and have a quality policy to achieve:
- Client Satisfaction: to meet the needs and expectations of clients
- Design Excellence: to produce architecture of consistently high quality
- Awareness: to contribute to the community through sensitively conceived and environmentally responsible architecture
- Viability: to operate a profitable and viable practice to allow the implementation of these policies
- Enjoyment: to enjoy the practice of architecture
Some things that interest and excite us about architecture include:
Space / volume – architecture is really the enclosure and organisation of space in a considered way. We like to use volume in our buildings to enhance the purpose and experience of the space.
Light – Bringing sunlight into buildings is to use free “special effects” on surface textures and colour. Its use for passive heating and illumination provides energy saving. Control of sunlight is important in our work. Artificial lighting is always a considered part of our work too, as apart from its obvious function, it offers another opportunity to influence the mood and quality of a space.
Colour – careful and considerate use of colour features in many of our works. Colour can be used to help define shape, and to influence the mood and focus of a space.
Materials – we like to select materials for their visual, tactile and practical qualities and enjoy the contrast of natural with manufactured
Sustainability – we embrace the principal of designing for sustainability, taking care to ensure that our designs are energy efficient and use passive solar principles where practical. Material selections are made after consideration of embodied energy and timber selections do not include endangered species.
