Licensing
When choosing a home improvement professional, it is vital that the person
you choose is correctly licensed. A license will ensure that the professional
is qualified in their field and has the necessary insurances to complete the
job. Licenses ensure that operating standards are maintained and that any work
performed will be safe and of a good quality.
The professional will also have the backing of the licensing body and this gives
the consumer protection in the event of a dispute between the consumer and the
professional, for example, if work has not been satisfactorily completed. If
the consumer decides to lodge a complaint, it is the licensing body that will
investigate.
The terms of a license are governed by State legislation. However, all licenses
should include the license number; the qualifications held by the professional;
and any restrictions that the licensee is bound by.
