Asbestos Removal

  • Browse the local directory for Asbestos Removal

Asbestos is a dangerous fibre that is present in many older homes.  It poses a serious health risk and, as such, needs to be disposed of by a licensed professional.  Due to the nature of the material, when removing asbestos professionals wear full protective coverings including respirators, keep the area wet to prevent dust traveling, use hand tools rather than power tools, and seal bags containing asbestos waste for removal.

Asbestos Removal Services

Asbestos removal professionals are capable of providing the following services:

  • asbestos removal including floors, walls, roofing
  • dismantle and dispose of the framework of structures such as sheds
  • asbestos encapsulation (this is where the asbestos-affected area is saturated by a substances that encases and binds the asbestos fibres before a heat-radiating membrane is applied for durability)
  • full disposal of asbestos material
  • identification of the different types of asbestos in the home
  • performing a risk assessment before any work is commenced

Hiring an Asbestos Removalist

Because asbestos removal is so dangerous, the professional should be fully licensed.  Strict procedures also need to be followed to ensure that dangerous fibres are not released into the air.  The use of a licensed professional is a legal requirement if loose or friable material containing asbestos or bonded asbestos that is greater than 10 square metres in area is present.  Asbestos removal companies need to be registered under the relevant legislation for your state or territory and permits need to be obtained from WorkCover before any work is begun.
