Shower Screens

  • Browse the local directory for Shower Screens

Shower screens are often thought of as being a functional part of the bathroom but there is a distinct design element to them as well, as they can greatly affect how the bathroom looks.  There is a wide range of shower screens, meaning that there is something that will suit your needs as well as look good.  You can opt to have the shower screen blend in, or you can make it a feature.

Types of Shower Screens

There are several different types of shower screens.  Some of the most common types are:

  • pivot door
  • sliding door
  • fixed and swing – this is fully framed fixed glass with a smaller swing panel
  • fixed panel – this is fully framed and is fixed to the bath edge or straight onto a tiled floor or base
  • corner unit – this is essentially a square base with one corner removed.  It has a pivot door and can be built on the hob of a spa or on a base or tiled floor.

Shower screens come in three main designs.  These are:

  • frameless
  • semi-frameless or semi-framed
  • and fully framed

Safety glass is used in all shower screens as this is a requirement by law.  The glass used can be clear, slump, tinted or frosted.  However, when using tinted glass, be aware that it may change the look of your tiles.  Tinted glass may also show up soap scum and other marks more easily than other forms of glass.

The provider you choose to make and install your shower screens should be willing to come to your home to provide a free measure and quote.  They should speak to you about what you want from your shower screen and provide advice on what would best suit your bathroom if need be.  Ask if they will provide a warranty or guarantee of any form on the work that they undertake.

They may also provide a repair service in which they have parts and glass available for most styles of shower screens, even designs that have been discontinued.
