Everything you need to know about finding a termite control product supplier

When it comes to your biggest investment, it is worth investigating termite control products.

Types of Termite Control Products

In Australia there are two main ways of treating and preventing termite incursion, both of which require professional application:

Physical Barriers

This option is only available to you if you are building a new home. It must be done before the site preparation is completed. Termite mesh is laid under the foundations. It needs to be carefully laid down to prevent any damage because even the smallest hole in the mesh can allow termite incursion.
  • Advantages: A physical barrier carefully placed under the home prior to construction means you never have to think about termites again and you don’t need to schedule termite treatments every few years.
  • Disadvantages: Your building costs will be higher than normal because the mesh should only be laid in place by a highly experienced mesh installer.

Chemical Barriers

This option is available to any property owner and should be carried out every year or two. During the initial part of the treatment, holes are drilled around the perimeter of the home. Barrier chemicals are placed in the holes and they are then sealed with a small stopper. The pest controller then carefully examines every part of the entire property that could be vulnerable to termite incursion. These include wooden fences, sheds, wood storage areas, under the home, in cupboards, walls and roof spaces.
  • Advantages: Chemical barriers are effective and after the initial treatment they should be regularly inspected. This makes it a cost effective way to keep your home termite free.
  • Disadvantages: You will need to repeat this treatment regime for the life of the home, and every five years a new barrier treatment will need to be completed. Once the holes are drilled, they can be re-used.
