"We wish to add a first storey extension to an existing double brick house on solid foundations. before investing significantly in detailed plans we want expert advice on the best way to go about this. as the builders we have spoken to do far have all said an engineer would be needed, we would like an independent opinion before engaging a builder or architect."

"I have a significant tree near my building which was built 1890s. we have some damage in the building which we suspect maybe due to the presence of the tree. we are seeking advice if this is or is not the case. pending your advice we may seek approval to have the tree removed."

"Need a reliable structural engineer to help with wind loading calculations including site plans with property boundary lines as well as elevation drawings to allow council approval for installing tilt mounted solar panels. looking to find someone who can give a basic pricing structure so we can quote our customers who have flat roofs easily. then if quote goes ahead be able to fulfil the above mention. we do site inspections for all our jobs and can provide photos, measurements and satellite layout of the proposed solar panel locations; hopefully saving yourself a trip to the site. work is mostly for domestic sites with the occasional commercial/industrial."

"Old stone semi-detached cottage where cracking has appeared over the last two to three weeks along the common wall that divides the two halves of the cottage, running almost the full length of the house. we need advice on what needs to be done and whether underpinning is the only alternative. a crack that has opened up along the full lenght of the common wall that divided this 1880s bluestone semi-detached cottage. i assume it's to do with the dry, hot weather we' ve had this summer. i feel if i go to a tradesman offering underpinning, that's what i'll get. so i thought it might be wiser to look for a structural engineer who can give an independent appraisal of what might be happening to cause the cracking.
