Everything you need to know about finding a stone basin supplier
Since the invention of acrylics and plastics, stone basins have taken a back seat in mainstream bathroom considerations and were out of reach for the average bathroom budget. This is no longer the case thanks to new innovations in stone work.
Whether they are crafted from all-natural or composite stone, stone basins add something special to any vanity and bathroom. Every one of them is as unique as the stone it was created from.
Types of Stone Basins
The range of stone basins coming onto the market is increasing all the time. Types include:
Composite stone: This is the game changer in stoneware. It is a combination of rocks and resin moulded to any basin form, from traditional to ultra-modern. This is an affordable option for most home owners and is much stronger and more resilient than moulded plastics.
Sandstone basins: These light coloured basins are usually hand-carved and coated in heavy-duty resin. Due to the fragility of natural sandstone, they do not usually have inset taps so the taps need to be mounted from the wall above.
Natural slate basins: These are suitable for wall or deck mounted taps and are available in black or grey tones, depending on the slate used. The slate is simply ground out of a block, leaving the tactile natural ridges and hollows of the slate in place for a natural, uneven finish.
Egyptian Galala stone basins: A white stone marbled with light cream and tan tones throughout. The stone is basically polished to an even, matt finish. This tough stone lends an ancient yet simple look to a bathroom.
Black granite basins: Carved from absolute black granite, the surface can be highly polished, but for a contrasting style, sometimes the inside is left with a matt finish while the outside is shiny.
Nero marquina stone basins: This dense black stone looks spectacular when highly polished, as it has inclusions of white flecked throughout. It gives a very masculine look to a bathroom, and would be perfect in a bachelor apartment or office.
Carara marble basins: These sophisticated basins are carved from mono-coloured Carara marble, giving a clean, hygienic appearance while still looking like natural stone.
Polished concrete: They can be dyed different colours and made to have a marbled, speckled and even striped effect and are very pleasing to the eye. The costs are also very attractive compared to natural stone.
Stone basins are available from bathroom suppliers, specialist plumbing suppliers and boutique wholesalers.
