Everything you need to know about finding a solar power accessory supplier
Solar Power Accessories
Due to the available government subsidies and increased electricity costs, solar powered energy sources have become more affordable. In our homes, the two primary solar sources used are solar electricity and solar heating. This is all well and good, but it doesn’t end there. Solar power accessories are required to help transfer the energy to usable sources such as lights and heated water etc.
Types of Solar Power Accessories
A range of solar power accessories are available in the market. These include, but are not limited to:
For most home owners, the mechanics of solar power installation and generation are left to the suppliers and engineers. Therefore, components like mounting hardware and panel extensions are of less importance to some, with accessories transforming energy into usable sources taking top priority. These accessories include:
DC-AC power inverters: Most electrical devices in our homes cannot run off pure solar power. Electrical devices commonly require AC power to work, while the sun only creates a DC current. The DC-AC power inverter is a solar power accessory that eliminates this problem. This is done by transforming the DC current into a usable AC current.
Fluorescent lights: All homes require lighting. 12v fluorescent tubes are commonly used as the source of lighting in the home. They run of the solar energy stored in large sealed lead batteries, sealed gel cell batteries or sealed lead acid batteries. In areas requiring less lighting, owners can fit low watt tubes of 7 watts, while using 25 and 40 watts tubes in areas requiring more lighting. A DC lighting system is also available when home owners prefer not to use AC power.
Solar skylights: Solar skylights are similar to normal skylights in that they are typically fitted into a roof, and allow natural light to enter the room. They can emit up to 3 times more light into a home compared to a normal vertical window. They are also highly effective in temperature control. The difference with this solar option is that light is not only restricted to the day. At night, and with a flick of a switch, stored solar energy allows continuous lighting. The upside is that these skylights can be fitted in both pitched and flat roofs, and do not require any structural roof changes. Installation and waterproofing is also done in a day. The right size skylight also admits just enough lighting and no more, and therefore is very energy efficient.
LED solar lighting: Low voltage LED solar lighting is a creative way of producing lighting in your home. With LEDs, the solar panel requirement is also much smaller and therefore more affordable. Because these LEDs only utilise 1/10 of the power compared to conventional lights, they are highly energy efficient.
Weather stations: Weather stations monitor temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed and direction as well as time and tide. Components typically include a processor, mantel mounts and panels, wireless and digital instruments.
Solar ventilators: Solar ventilators are ideal accessories to create additional airflow in a room. Choices include solar attic and gable fans and are also available in a kit form. Typically, the solar attic fan is accompanied by a thermal switch.
Solar charge controllers: Charge controllers are typically used in combination with unregulated solar panels which often produce uncertain voltages. These fluctuations could be detrimental to the life of your lead acid battery. The charge controller can handle most fluctuations and allow safe charging of your solar batteries
