Everything you need to know about finding a power tools supplier

Power Tools

Power tools are essential accessories to any home, and are used in various applications. There are five power tools that no homeowner should be without.

5 Essential Power Tools

The following power tools should be purchased for any home:

  • The Drill: Drills are used to make holes in a surface, whether in brick, wood, concrete or steel. Homeowners are spoiled for choice as there are so many brands, makes and models available. Drills are manufactured from aluminium gear to hard plastic covers with variable switches, rubberised soft side grip and dual operation. Whether it is mounting a rack for extra book shelves or putting up a painting, the drill will be a very handy power tool to have.

  • The demolition hammer: This tool is mainly used with demolition work that needs to be done at home. Normally it is used prior the commencement of renovations. Demolition is a very dangerous task and proper safety precautions will need to be taken.

  • The orbital sander: This power tool is mainly used to smooth out rough edges and uneven surfaces of materials. The sander can be used on wood, plastics or metal, but must be fitted with the correct sandpaper accessories. For use on multiple surfaces, the random orbit sander is ideal. This tool can easily be used to move in a random pattern which can work on surfaces in any direction. This is perfect as it can do the job without scratching your material or surface. Another important component of the sander is the sandpaper. The sandpaper grade will differ from application to application. The lower the sandpaper grade, the more course the texture. Higher grade sandpaper will result in finishes with a smoother texture.

  • The electric screwdriver: The screwdriver can be corded or cordless. The cordless screwdriver has the capability to assist with small tasks, and works well in areas without electricity. One of the most helpful features of a screwdriver is the reverse switch option. This function assists with taking out screws that needs removing. When it comes to the cordless screwdriver, another component to bear in mind is the voltage of the rechargeable battery. Make sure your voltage is enough to enable your cordless screwdriver to be the handy tool you need it to be. Remember when purchasing a battery operated screwdriver, your main consideration should be how much power you require, its size, weight and how often it will be used.

Safety Measures

The incorrect use of power tools can lead to serious injury or even death. Precautionary safety measures and correct operation should always be administered.

  • Consider your work area environment – don’t use power tools in damp wet locations, and always keep your work area well lit. Never expose your power tools to rain and never use power tools in the presence of flammable liquid gasses.

  • Keep your working area clean – cluttered areas only invite injuries. Always keep your power tools away from children.

  • Store your idle tools – when not in use, your tools should always be stored in a dry and preferably high or locked up cupboard.

  • Use the right tool – don’t force small tools to do the job meant for a heavy duty tool. In short don’t use tool for jobs it’s not intended for.

  • Wear appropriate safety gear – don’t wear loose fitting clothing or jewellery as these items can be caught in operating tools. Wear rubber gloves and non-skid footgear when working outside. Always wear your safety glasses or dust mask and remember to always maintain your power tools with care.

  • Stay alert – watch what you are doing, stay focus with the job at hand, do not allow yourself to become distracted. Accidents can happen in a matter of a second
