Everything you need to know about finding a pool heating specialist

What could be better than enjoying your pool all year round? For many of us, this is a distinct possibility with the various pool heating options on the market today. Some are more energy efficient than others (and cheaper to run), while others are more suited to our lifestyles. Depending upon where you live and what you require, there’s an ideal way of heating your pool.

Types of Pool Heating

  • Gas: This type of pool heating is particularly popular because it rapidly heats the pool. If you only want an increase of several degrees, gas is quick. Unlike solar, however, gas is available when needed. In many instances, the actual unit costs less than other types and homeowners don’t have to contend with what some consider to be unsightly visible pipes (as is the case with solar). Gas pool heating systems offer quick installation (often installed in one day). They can use natural gas or LPG and can operate in all types of weather. They’ve been known to need more maintenance than other systems.
  • Solar: Solar powered pool heating systems make use of the energy from the sun to warm the pool water. Pipes and a solar collector are typically placed on the roof of the home. Usually the existing pump used for the pool will pump the water up to the roof and heat it via the solar collector. After this process, the water is sent back to the pool. Professional solar pool heating suppliers often offer homeowners the choice of three systems: standard, standard plus the use of a solar blanket and boosted. The latter system involves the use of a standard system and solar blanket – all being boosted by a gas or electric heat pump to allow swimming all year round. The solar blanket also offers a passive method of heating the pool.
  • Electric heat pump: This is an extremely energy efficient method of pool heating, using off peak electricity. Heat is drawn from the outside air to refrigerant in pipes. The refrigerant is then compressed to create heat, which is then transferred to the pool water in the piping.

Pool Heating Suppliers

Many professional pool heating suppliers, installers and repairers are specialist companies. It’s important that the pool heating specialist views your future or existing system. Only then can they offer the perfect solution for your location and needs. Because there are many options and each homeowner is different in what they’re after, professional pool heating providers take this into consideration before designing the best system. Ensure that the equipment is made to Australian standards and that there’s a warranty on parts and labour.
