Blocked Drains

Healthy plumbing and clear drains, most often hidden from our view, ensure we have clean houses and buildings to live and work in. If drains are blocked, flooding may result and water that is trying to escape can’t do so through the drain. This can cause water damage to the property's structure and wiring, and electrical appliances can be damaged irreparably. A blocked drain can be smelly and inconvenient, and it is best to contact your local plumbing professional to quickly unblock it.

In Australia, blocked drains are most commonly caused by tree roots, followed closely by fats, oils and grease that should have gone out with the rubbish instead of down our sinks. The build up of leaves, silt and other forms of litter may also be responsible.

Drain blockages are not only inconvenient, they can cause hazardous safety conditions as well. Water that is discarded from the kitchen, bathroom or laundry is much cleaner than water that has been stuck in a blocked drain. Water trapped inside the drain has the potential to breed harmful bacteria, strains of which are especially bad if stemming from the toilet

In the event of a blocked drain, there are two main cleaning options your plumber may employ: High Pressure Water Jetting and Electro-Mechanical Cleaning. The former is mainly used to unblock smaller bore pipes such as toilets and sinks, but the latter is the simplest and most efficient way of clearing all other drain blockages.
