Everything you need to know about finding a kitchen fittings specialist

If you are renovating your kitchen or just want to spruce up the space, there are many stylish fittings from which to choose.

Types of Kitchen Fittings

Kitchen fittings are anything that is not easily removable, including:

  • Sink – Either single or double, usually made from steel, but can also be enamelled, PVC, natural stone, stone composite and a number of other materials including resin coated wood and brass.
  • Tap sets – Among the many varieties are U-shaped, directional (with a flexible hose) and mixer taps. Materials they are made from include polished and brushed steel, brass and ceramic coated.
  • Bench tops – These can be made using MDF topped with laminate, stone composite, natural stone or wood. The colours available are almost endless, especially in laminate.
  • Cupboards – At head-height or above, below bench-tops, above and surrounding kitchen appliances like fridges, stoves and dishwashers.
  • Pantry – A wide variety is available including walk-in, deep shelved, narrow shelved and pull-out. Space-saving doors can be bi-fold, concertina or sliding.
  • Stove – Options here include electric or gas, combined with oven, on the bench-top. Some come with a chargrill and others have a flat barbeque style plate.
  • Oven – Available in gas or electric, you can choose a fan-forced or convection oven, positioned at head height or at ground level.
  • Fridge – Single door, double door, freezer on top or at ground level, built in to cabinets or free-standing. Other options are white or brushed steel and with an ice maker inside, or built in to the door.
  • Dishwasher – Single or double unit (drawer style) or slimline. You can have them built-in or free standing, choose water-saving or extra-large models.
  • Light fittings – You can get directional lighting from one or more fittings in halogen, LED (light-emitting diode) or spotlights. There is also strip-lighting in fluorescent or halogen.

Choosing Kitchen Fittings

If you are building a new kitchen or need to replace any of the major kitchen fittings, you will find specialist stores and suppliers in each field.

Should you need the whole kitchen stripped and re-fitted, consult your local builder, kitchen renovation specialist, kitchen supplier and installer. They can equip you with everything you need.
