Garden Maintenance

With time being at such a premium for many people these days, employing the services of a garden maintenance company means that your garden will always look its best with minimal effort from the homeowner – leaving them free to enjoy the garden.

Services Provided by a Gardener

Garden maintenance companies can do almost any job around the garden, no matter how small it may be. Some examples of what they can do include:Photos courtesy of Urunga Hirequip
  • Gardening: If you're time poor, hiring a gardener to undertake commmon gardening duties can help prolong the life of your lawn and improve the aesthetics of your home. Also see gardening.

  • Fertilising: Fertilising is very important for keeping your garden healthy, helping plants ward off disease, drought and other harsh conditions, and encouraging your plants to produce a higher quality of fruit, flowers or veggies. For more see garden fertilising.

  • Pruning & trimming: To help plants maintain their shape and promote growth, it's a good idea to regularly prune and trim hedges, trees, shrubs and bushes. A gardener can be hired to provide regular pruning and trimming services, to keep your garden looking its best. See garden pruning & trimming for more.

  • Weed control: A gorgeous garden can be easily spoiled by weeds, as they take nutrients from plants, block sunlight and can even strangle foliage. An experienced garden will be able to advise on the best way to remove weeds from your garden and assist in their removal. For more see garden weed control.
  • Garden cleanup: A garden maintenance service can assist in garden clean up, which can be a regular scheduled service or a one off to spruce things up outdoors. This may include any number of tasks, including: mowing, planting, tree and shrub pruning, leaf collection, weeding, watering, edging, mulching, fertilizing and minor landscaping. For more informatino see garden cleanup.

  • Rubbish removal: If your garden is littered with debris from a storm or other incident, it can seem like a mission to clean it up. A gardener can assist by removing all rubbish and debris from your garden and recycle it if possible. To find a service in your area see garden rubbish removal.

Gardeners can also assist with:

  • Lawn mowing
  • Tree and shrub removal
  • Minor landscaping
  • Pest treatments
  • Edge trimming
  • Mulching

The professionals can set up a maintenance program, where they will come out on a regular basis to tend to your garden, or they can also provide casual visits, coming out only when needed. Photo courtesy of Clean 'n' Green

Choosing a Gardener

When choosing a garden maintenance company, ensure that they are fully qualified and hold the correct insurance. This will provide you with peace of mind. Ask for a quote before hiring the professional, and be sure that it includes all aspects of what you need done in your garden. If you require an ongoing maintenance program, ask if the price is per visit or a sum that covers a certain period of time (e.g. three months).
