Excavation

There are many reasons for needing excavation on your property, whether it’s for leveling the ground, putting in a swimming pool, landscaping, adding service trenches such as those required for drainage and plumbing – the list goes on.  Whatever your reason, it is a good idea to gain at least three different quotes from professionals, such as residential or commercial builders, and also to see their licenses and references.

Consider the size of your job – will a bobcat with operator suffice or will you need larger machinery?  Ensure that the machinery can access the area to be excavated.  If your ground is soft or uneven, this may affect what type of machinery can be used in excavations.  Not only are there traditional excavation methods using earthmoving equipment, there is now also vacuum excavation, which is particularly suited to service trenches and the like and causes much less disruption to your property.

Also consider if your chosen professional will remove excess material such as soil, rocks and concrete or if you need to hire another professional for this.  Similarly consider if your professional will bring in any additional fill needed.
