Everything you need to know about finding a carport supplier

Carports protect vehicles from harsh weather conditions. They also provide perfect outside entertaining areas. Whether you want to store your car, truck or boat, carports offer the ideal space.

Carports differ to garages in that they don’t typically include side walls. However, these can be installed as add-ons (such as privacy screening, lattice or flyscreens).

Carports: Materials, Styles and Ratings

  • Material: The roofing on carports is typically constructed of Colorbond®, polycarbonate or zincalume steel. The quality of these materials means that modern-day carport roofs are essentially maintenance-free and resistant to water damage and pests (such as termites). The posts also come in a range of materials including timber, aluminium and steel, depending upon your budget and requirements.
  • Sizes: Carports come in a range of sizes, depending upon your individual needs. The most common sizes are single, double and triple; however, they also range in height. They can easily be customised.
  • Designs: The flat roof and gable are the two most common carport designs. The flat roof is usually less costly than the gable and is easy to install. The gable’s sides slope and meet in a pitch in the middle and is often chosen for its aesthetics. They typically cost more than flat roof designs and can come in a range of styles including standard, dutch or double dutch.
  • Attached or free standing: Carports can also be attached to the home or another structure (such as the garage).  They can also be free standing.
  • Ratings. Carport structures also come in a range of ratings for wind, cyclones and snow loading. Depending upon where you live, your carport will need to meet specific ratings.

Carport Design, Supply and Installation

There are a number of options for homeowners when it comes to having a carport designed and installed in your home. They can come in kit forms, be custom made or installed by specialist companies.

Professional carport suppliers also have in-house builders or sub-contractors to erect your carport. If required, specialist providers can also submit plans for the council approval.
