Building Audits

If you are thinking about repairing, remodelling or renovating an existing building, a building audit can be a very useful report to gain. An architect is able to carry out a building audit and this will enable them to see how best to modify the existing structure. Here’s what you need to know about architects and building audits.

What is a Building Audit?

A building audit can be defined as an inspection of a building resulting in a report that remarks on the overall condition of the building. It is generally conducted visually. A building audit can cover such things as the structural condition of the building, areas that may need repair, the condition of the mechanical and electrical systems, the safety of the building, and if there are any hazardous materials in the building.

Architects and Building Audits

An architect is able to carry out a building audit, and this is very advantageous as they will be well-equipped to discuss how best to repair or remodel a building so that it is once again safe, healthy, functional and attractive. If the architect carries out the building audit, they are able to see exactly what areas of the building are not functioning at the moment, and what the best changes are to be made to the building. A building audit can also help the architect to modify the building so that it is more environmentally sustainable. For example, they can relocate windows to achieve better ventilation and passive cooling.

A building audit can also help an architect to see what professionals will be needed during a project. For example, if there is asbestos in the building, they can call an asbestos removal professional, or if rewiring needs to be done, they can call an electrician.
