WHAT IS A FLOATING FLOOR

A floating floor is a floor covering such as laminate, timber, bamboo or even cork that is placed over an existing sub floor. It is not glued or nailed to the subfloor hence the term “floating” floor. In between this flooring and the subfloor an underlay is placed which should have a built in moisture barrier. A floating floor should be laid with an expansion gap around the perimeter to allow for expansion and contraction.

LAMINATE
Laminate flooring is type of flooring made of a laminate material. Laminate flooring is made to look like natural products such as solid timber flooring. Laminate can be installed over most sub floors such as timber, concrete, and even tiles. Laminate is a cheaper option when looking at floor coverings and is also very durable and sustainable.

BAMBOO
Bamboo is becoming one of the most popular coverings today, for the simple reasons it is Eco friendly and is harder and more durable than any other timber on the market. As we all know bamboo grows rapidly, with some species growing up to 120cm in 24 hours bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant in the world. The same plant can be harvested about every 3-5 years compared to hardwood that can take decades to mature, some up to 80 years.
