Apprenticeship
The Master Builders Group Scheme is a full-time employment based training program that provides an opportunity to learn all aspects of a trade in the building and construction industry.
The Group Scheme embraces the approach whereby an Australian Apprentice is registered with the Association and outsourced to builders and subcontractors on a rotational basis to provide workplace-training experience. It is a uniquely Australian scheme aimed at providing builders and subcontractors with apprentices in the building and construction industry
Since the formation of the Apprenticeship Department in 1977, approximately 8000 Australian Apprentices have graduated from the Master Builders Australian Apprenticeship programme.
The Master Builders is a leader in providing Australian Apprenticeship training for the industry and has approximately 250 Australian Apprentices on board who are currently undergoing the Australian Apprenticeship programme. These Australian Apprentices are hosted with a variety of building and construction companies around New South Wales.
The Group Scheme supports over 30 trades and caters for the Residential, Commercial and Civil sectors and has branches in Sydney, Albury, Ballina, Gosford, Port Macquarie and Ulladulla.
Also, for nearly 20 years Master Builders have been recognising the best apprentices in the industry through the annual Apprentice of the Year Awards.
Sustainability & the Environment
Master Builders Association of NSW proudly provides the following options for those wishing to pursue further learning and involvement in the sustainability and environmental fields of work.
Commercial Sector
For the Commercial sector, targeted education to address niche learning needs based on the Building Code of Australia (Section J) are planned as well as a learning Expo in early 2012 to bring together some of the most advanced thinking about both construction issues and bigger picture analysis to address macro sustainability themes.
A Sustainability Managers’ Forum is now meeting monthly to discuss sustainability and environmental issues and to provide Master Builders with strategic direction in terms of educational and training needs. The group is currently developing a constitution and a set of working objectives.
Residential Sector
For the Residential sector, Master Builders delivers the nationally acclaimed and recognised Green Living Builder program designed to provide information about environmentally sustainable materials, techniques and drive economy and profitability in the business.
Green Living Program
In 2004 Master Builders Australia launched the popular and topical Green Living program to provide residential builders with the necessary tools to integrate sustainability options in their building and construction activities. Builders who complete the two-day educational program and are able to demonstrate how they have integrated their learning into their current practice (an assignment-based activity which follows the classroom activity) are able to identify themselves as Master Builders Green Living builders.

Health and Safety
The Master Builders Safety Team has over 20 years experience, providing advice to members on safe work practices, procedures, documentation and responding to safety related disputes.
The management of Work Health and Safety (WHS) has become an increasingly important undertaking for all companies, businesses and individuals working in the Building and Construction Industry. With the new Work Health and Safety (WHS) Legislation in Australia operative from 1 January 2012, OHS has become WHS and the management of people’s health, safety and welfare will continue to be an important undertaking for members. Training and Inductions, Site Safety Management Plans and Systems, and Safe Work Method Statements will continue to place an increasing onus on building and construction businesses and on trades to ‘get it right’ the first time.
The Master Builders continues to be recognised as an unrivalled industry leader in the provision of health and safety services.
Housing
The Master Builders Association’s Housing Department is a specialist department dedicated to representing member’s needs across all types of housing and policy related issues in New South Wales.
The department participates in a large number of NSW Government committees and statutory bodies to ensure the industry has a real voice with regulators.
The Housing Department coordinates the Association’s residential policy development and keeps up to date with technical and regulatory matters.
The Housing Department both consults with and lobby’s the NSW Government in order to deliver tangible and beneficial policy outcomes for the residential building industry in NSW, and for the benefit of the state economy as a whole.
Industrial Relations
The Industrial Relations Department of the MBA with offices located in both Sydney and Newcastle provides specialist industrial relations services and advice in managing employment related matters and are respected practitioners.
Infrastructure
MBA NSW represents various sectors within the construction industry. Representation also includes the sector of infrastructure which is technical structures that support communities, such as roads, water supply, sewers, electrical grids, telecommunications and educational services which are essential to enable, sustain, or enhance living conditions of communities.
MBA can assist various contractors meet their obligations when working on Government projects. This includes developing various plans to meet the outcomes of information required by Government funded projects.
MBA has further enhanced its membership services within the infrastructure and civil construction sectors of the construction industry.
In addition to an increase in industry related services for the civil sector, we represent the industry on various external civil/infrastructure industry work groups.
Skills development of current industry employees and addressing the industry’s skills shortages through the MBA training and group apprenticeship scheme is high on our agenda. In addition we continue to assist members with ongoing training requirements for licensing purposes such as demolition and asbestos removal.
Master Builders also provide Civil Construction Trainees.
Insurance Services
As Insurance Brokers, MBA Insurance Services Pty Ltd (MBAiS) source insurance packages for MBA members that effectively protect their assets at attractive premium rates.
Legal Department
The MBA Legal Department is operated by consultant lawyers and Association support staff and is known as "MBA Lawyers".
MBA Lawyers assist members with a range of matters including choice of contracts, contract interpretation, and advice on specific contract provisions.
The lawyers can also offer members advice on dispute resolution - informal and formal proceedings - as well as provide guidance in relation to contract administration and other legally binding documents.
Advice is provided by telephone and, where more beneficial, a meeting at the MBA or another appropriate venue can be arranged.
Training
The Master Builders provides flexible programs for becoming a licensed builder Certificate IV in Building & Construction (Building) CPC40110, specialised OH&S courses as well as Building Consultants and Swimming Pool Builders.
Our speciality is to individually assess people for licensing purposes who have extensive relevant practical experience in the building and construction industry. We can determine current skills (current competencies) and identify gaps to complete a Certificate III Qualification (trade level qualification) Certificate IV in Building, Diploma or the Advanced Diploma of Building & Construction Some of our training and skill assessment programs include but are not limited to:
