Heatec - Underfloor Heating
Floor heating under tiles
Aside from the electric and hydronic in-slab floor heating systems, there are two methods often used specifically for under tile heating. These are:
Bedded floor systems
Commonly used for bathroom floor heating, this method involves laying heating cable at around 90 - 100mm spacing just before the sand/cement bedding is laid.
Thin bed systems
Two methods are offered: The 2.5mm cable can be supplied on a reel suit the floor area at around 60mm spacing. This is ideal for irregular sized rooms.
Alternatively, the cable can be supplied pre-attached onto factory-made rolls 500mm wide in a variety of lengths. This is ideal for larger areas.
Factory made mats to suit
Heatec can fabricate heating mats suitable for normal or thin bed systems. Simply order to suit your floor shape and it is supplied in a single roll shaped to your plan, ready for easy and fast on-site installation.
Thin bed systems supplied on reel or in mat, are to have a thin skim coat of self-levelling compound, in readiness for tiling.
Under carpet heating
Heating mats are sandwiched between the carpet underlay and carpet.
They are available in several sizes up to 20m long, in a 500mm wide roll (covering 10 sq.m in one roll). The foil backing can be cut between cable runs, enabling the roll to be zig-zagged into any shape.
If a pad of at least half the room floor area is laid, not only will it provide direct warmth above, but the 140W per sq.m output will raise the room temperature in general.
Other forms of floor heating can also be used beneath carpet, with some of these providing sufficient thermal storage to enable an off-peak or controlled electricity tariff to be used. However these mats offer a much faster response, making them a better choice in some installations, especially where a room is not in fairly continuous use.
