One type of fireplace that is hot in the trend stakes right now is the linear fireplace. This type of fireplace still adds warmth to the room but it is an excellent style statement, and perfect for contemporary homes. Linear fireplaces are typically flush mounted into the wall but you also have the option of placing them centrally so that you can observe the fire from all sides. Linear fireplaces can be floor or wall mounted and they are bordered by sleek yet beautiful stainless steel, glass or ceramic.
If you’re after a luxurious yet mysterious looking fireplace, you can’t go past a fireplace with a bold, black surround. Whether you opt for gas or electric, black fireplaces can be used to make an enormous style statement. Use them as the focus of a wall, or integrate them with black walls and black furnishings, so that the fire seems to just glow out of the wall.
Bring in Some Opulence
Another option that’s big right now is stone and wood mantels that surround classic fireplaces. These create a look that is a throwback to the style you see in old movies (just think Hitchcock!). Opt for all stone, all wood, or a combination of the two – it’s really up to you!
Rustic Stacked Stone
In winter, what could be better than evoking the feel of a cosy country cottage or an American style ranch house? Create that feel in your own home by using rustic stacked stone to create your mantelpiece. Throw a solid slab of timber on top and you’ll have classic style that never goes out of fashion!
