Storage space is always a challenge in today’s modern home - you continue to accumulate possessions while your home’s floor area remains unchanged. While both men and women ordinarily keep their clothes inside wardrobe cabinets, some women tend to need more space to accommodate their clothes, bags and accessories. A walk-in wardrobe solves this problem as you can maximise the space of a walk-in closet with shelving options while keeping your wardrobe clutter out of sight.
A walk-in wardrobe generally refers to a room that is devoted to the storage of clothes. For some, the walk-in wardrobe may be a luxury because of the additional space that it requires while for others, it may be a solution to organising clutter.
Having a well-planned walk-in wardrobe can make the storage and care of your clothes, shoes, handbags, ties and accessories a breeze. There are a lot of different organisational solutions to help with this, including:
Caring for your clothes means having the right type of hangers for different clothing types, with padding for special items. Hanging spaces should be flexible enough for clothes of different lengths. Dresses and suit packs require full length hanging, while shirts' and tops' hanging space can be in two tiers.
If possible install drawers with dividers for items such as neckties, socks and scarves.
Shoe storage in your walk-in wardrobe can take the form of tiered floor racks, hanging 'pockets', or shelving.
Every walk in robe should have a full length mirror, even if it is affixed to a door. This enables the robe to be useful as a dressing room as well, and as such attention should be made to ensure there is adequate lighting in the robe.
Another good idea is to allocate some wall space to store beads and necklances. You can do this by affixing small hooks to the wall - allowing them hang keeps them for tangling.
Frequently vacuum your walk-in wardrobe to keep it as dust free as possible, and ensure it has planty of ventilation to prevent mould growing on leather items. If moths are a problem in your area, use your preferred method for combatting them, to ensure your clothes don't become their food source.
There are some great storage systems that are ideal for walk-in robes, with innovative features that will ensure every item of clothing has its place.
