Synthetic Grass FAQs
Synthetic grass has improved in leaps and bounds in recent years and can be considered as the perfect replacement for the real thing! Here we answer all your questions about synthetic grass, so that you can learn more about the product as a whole.
What is Synthetic Grass?
Synthetic grass is a product that is designed to mimic the look of natural grass. It is made up of synthetic lawn fibres that are inset into a base made from rubber granules and sand.
Where Can Synthetic Grass Be Laid?
Synthetic grass can be laid anywhere that you would install a standard lawn, even on sloping areas. It can also be laid over any substrate including concrete.
How Long Does Synthetic Grass Last For?
Synthetic grass is generally expected to last for around 15 to 20 years. Most manufacturers will give you a warranty of around 7 to 8 years.
What Happens if My Pet Soils the Synthetic Grass?
This is not a problem at all as you can simply scrape up the mess or hose it down, just like you would with a real lawn!
Does Synthetic Grass Get Hot?
The new synthetic grasses that are available are actually quite similar to lawn, heat wise. That is, they will warm up slightly in the heat of the sun but they will not become hot or uncomfortable to use. You can still use the grass as you would normally.
Does Synthetic Grass Fade?
Synthetic grass has been treated with a special UV resistant coating so it will not fade in the sun. The coating also helps the grass to withstand wind, heat and other weather conditions.
Does Rain Affect the Synthetic Grass?
Synthetic grass is installed on a base that is made up of free draining rock and crushed rock. The matting at the base of the grass is also perforated. This means that when it rains, the water will drain straight through the synthetic grass into the soil below.
How Much Does Synthetic Grass Cost?
Synthetic grass is charged on a per square metre rate, so the more grass you are having laid, the more it will cost. However, it is a once off cost and once the grass is laid, you will not have to pay a cent in watering, mowing or other maintenance that you would expect with a standard lawn.
