There’s nothing like sitting down with a favourite drink and the latest copy of your favourite magazine or newspaper but if you’re anything like me, magazines and newspapers just seem to keep multiplying in your home! You don’t have to throw them out straight after reading if you don’t want to though as there are some great storage solutions that you can make use of. Just some have been outlined here. If you want any more information about storing magazines and newspapers, just have a chat with a
storage expert near you!
Use Magazine Holders
If you tend to collect magazines, one easy way to store and display them is by using plastic or cardboard magazine holders. These are readily available and there is a huge range available, from plain colours through to intricate patterns. If you can’t find a pattern you like, just cover it in some contact or wallpaper! Sort your magazines according to date and title and simply place them in the holders. Store the holders themselves in a bookcase or on a shelf. That way, when you want a particular magazine, you’ll be able to find it easily.
Store Magazines and Newspapers in Boxes
Another way to store magazines and newspapers is in boxes. The obvious choices are cardboard or plastic as they are least likely to adversely affect the paper. Make sure they are suited for archival purposes. Ones that are designated as acid and lignin free are perfect. Place the spine or fold of the newspapers and magazines in alternating directions (one right, one left, and repeat) as this keeps them nice and flat. You may wish to place strong cardboard or plastic in between newspapers and magazines to stop them warping with time. Once the boxes are filled, keep them out of sunlight and in a room with relatively low humidity.
The Humble Rack
If you like keeping magazines and newspapers for a few days to a few weeks before throwing them out, chances are you’ll just need a humble magazine or newspaper rack. These are made out of different materials including timber, metal and plastic and they are perfect for placing beside your favourite comfy chair. Many newspaper and magazine racks actually have a top on them so they can do double duty as a side table – perfect!
