The one thing that everybody does at home is flush the toilet, and to do that, you need a button to push! In concealed cistern toilets, the buttons are held within a push plate. Here are some types that you can choose from.
What is a Push Plate?
A push plate is also known as a flush actuator and it is the only visible part of a concealed cistern toilet apart from the toilet bowl. Its purpose is to allow you to flush the toilet with ease. The push plate is not just important in terms of function, it is vital as it is an essential part of the aesthetics of the toilet and the bathroom as a whole. As well as allowing you to flush the toilet, the push plate can also serve as an access panel, should you need access to the hidden cistern at some stage in the future.
Choosing a Push Plate
The beauty about push plates is that there are literally so many that you can choose from. You can choose from a pneumatic push plate, which is the one that operates when you physically push the button down, or a mechanical push plate, which is a soft touch option, requiring very little pressure in order to flush the toilet.
Push plates are generally rectangular in shape but they are available in a wide range of sizes, depending on whether or not they have to act as an access panel as well. They can be made out of a range of different materials but the most common are stainless steel, chrome, plastic or glass. Of course, they come in a huge range of colours and finishes – reds, blacks, silvers, whites, greys, creams, greens, and just about any other colour you can think of. The buttons set within the flush plate can be square, round or rectangular and there can be one or two buttons depending on whether or not the toilet is dual flush.
