No matter what type of driveway gate you have, there are some additions that you can install to make using your gate easier, and also increase your security. For example, you can easily automate your gate so that it opens at the push of a button – no more having to get out of your car to open and close the gate behind you!  These run off electric motors and you can even hook them up to solar power for a truly green option. Another great addition that can improve your security is to install security cameras or an intercom system. These allow you to see who is at the gate before you let them in. Of course, your driveway gate is only as secure as you make it.  A good lock is vital to ensure that your gate is well secured. Your lock can be a traditional latch, a keyed lock, a padlock, or an electronic lock that you can integrate into the rest of your home security system.

Choosing Driveway Gates

When it comes to choosing driveway gates, the best thing that you can do is to choose a gate that either matches or complements the rest of your fence. This will ensure that you have a unified look and that the design is consistent. For example, if you have a timber fence, a timber gate will provide the best effect.  Also look at the size of your driveway. Gates are available in many standard sizes but if you have a driveway that is wider than normal, you may need to have a gate custom made. Just be sure that it is strong enough to span the distance without sagging. The next thing you have to decide is if your driveway gate will swing open or if it will slide open. They are both great options but it will depend on how much room you have. Also, sliding gates are best for sloping driveways while swing gates are great for properties that have limited access.
