Metal Ceiling Systems

Are you looking for a practical, durable, and stylish type of ceiling? Look no further than metal ceiling systems. Read on to find out what you need to know.

About Metal Ceiling Systems

Metal ceiling systems can be used inside or outside the home to provide a very elegant, decorative look. Depending on the precise type of ceiling that you choose, metal ceilings can be made from materials such as aluminium, aluminium alloys, steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, and chrome. The metal can be left unpainted, protected with a special coating such as clear polyurethane so you see the natural beauty of metal, or it can be powder coated or painted to the colour of your choice. Metal ceiling systems range from systems that provide a clean, contemporary look, to systems that are extremely ornate and decorative. Metal ceiling systems are flexible so will move with the building without causing damage, they are durable as they will not crack, peel, or sustain the same damage that standard ceilings can, and they are water and fire resistant.

Types of Metal Ceiling Systems

There are several different types of metal ceiling systems including:

  • Linear metal ceilings
  • Metal pan ceilings
  • Tin ceiling tiles
  • Pressed metal ceilings
  • Metal ceiling grids

Metal ceiling systems can be fixed to an existing ceiling or substrate, or suspended in a grid system. Suspended ceilings have the advantage of allowing you to easily hide ductwork, wiring, and so forth. Suspended metal ceilings make use of grids, which can be fully concealed or exposed, depending on the look that you wish to achieve. The tiles used in metal ceiling systems can be fixed directly to an existing ceiling or substrate, or if you are using a ceiling grid, the tiles or pans can be clip in, hook in or lay in. Some metal ceilings have great acoustic properties, using perforated tiles and acoustic insulation in order to dampen and absorb sound.
