They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home and this is now truer than ever, thanks to the integration of technology. The humble fridge can now be connected to the internet, allowing you to do more in your kitchen than you ever thought possible.
The internet fridge is basically a normal fridge that contains a built-in computer that can be connected to the internet. It is just one item in an ever-growing category known as internet appliances that not only includes devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and smart phones, but also Web-enabled versions of standard household appliances such as fridges and microwaves.
The internet fridge typically uses a touch screen LCD display. It is able to keep track of what food the fridge currently contains, and how long they’ve been in the fridge. It may contain a video camera, allowing you to leave video messages for other members of the household, as well as a standard camera so that you can take photos for storage in an album, to post to a website or to send via email. You are also able to watch TV, play music, or listen to the radio. As well, you can conduct your shopping on the internet, whether it is for food or other items, and can even download new recipe ideas to try out in the kitchen.
Some internet fridges come equipped with the capability to allow the owner to hang a laptop, digital photo frame, or iPod dock in a special module in the door. The modules have a connection that attaches to a power outlet. Being able to put these devices on the fridge will save precious counter space, and put them in one easy to access location.
