Hanging a Hanging Chair

A hanging chair is a stylish and comfortable addition to the inside or outside of any home but how do you hang the chair so that it is both comfortable and safe?  Find out how here.

How to Hang your Hanging Chair

The way that you hang your hanging chair will depend upon the type of chair and the method you are choosing.  One way is to simply tie two ropes from a strong tree limb and tie the ropes to the chair.  You could opt to use a chain instead of a rope if you wish.  If you want to hang the chair from a ceiling of some kind, either indoors or outdoors, you will need to buy special hooks.  It may be beneficial to enlist the help of someone that is familiar with hanging chairs from the ceiling to ensure that they are hung safely.

Hanging the Chair Using a Stand

You can choose to use a special stand that allows you to hang your chair safely.  The advantage of these is that you can generally move your chair to wherever you want it.  This is great if you need portability.  Types of stands that can be used to hang your new hanging chair include:

• c frame
• trailer hitch stand
• double swing stand
• double swing arc stand

When hanging your chair on a stand, it is important that you follow any instructions that come with it.  This will ensure that the chair is sturdy and will not become damaged with use.

Hanging your Chair – What to Remember

The most important thing to remember when hanging your new hanging chair is safety.  Namely, you need to allow for the weight of the chair itself plus the occupant/s of the chair.  Always ensure that the chair can take more weight than you think it will need to.  The last thing you want is for it to fall! Make sure that the chair is hung high enough as well.  Some chairs are made of fabric that can stretch somewhat once there is some weight in them so hang the chair high enough from the ground so that this isn’t a problem, but so that you can still easily get into and out of the chair.

Also remember that while you can enjoy your chair in a breeze, the chairs are not designed to be swung deliberately.  This can loosen the fastenings or cause damage to the chair.
