Frosted glass doors are a great statement in any home, and they are so versatile. You can opt for a fully frosted door or for a pattern of your choosing. Read on to learn more.
Frosted glass is made in one of two ways – through the acid etching of clear sheet glass or by sandblasting. It has the effect of turning completely see-through glass translucent, so that light can pass through the glass but the view is obscured. The look of frosted glass can also be obtained through applying vinyl film to the glass, which is used as a sort of stencil. “Photo resist” or photo resistant film is also available. This can be used to mask off the area surrounding a decorative design.
Frosted glass can provide an excellent touch within the home and it is particularly good for use indoors. It lets light through the glass while still maintaining privacy. However, be aware that no glass door is completely opaque. All glass doors will allow at least an image or outline to be seen through them.
Frosted glass can be used in all sorts of doors throughout the home – internal, external, sliding, pantry, bi-fold, and so on. You can use it in any door that can take standard glass, i.e. timber, and aluminium. You can opt to have the door completely frosted or you can have the glass frosted to produce a design in the door. This design can be just about anything you desire, so it is great if you want a door that makes an individual statement.
However, if you are using frosted glass doors in your home, you will still have to ensure that the glass used in the door is tempered for safety and security. This is especially important if you are planning on having a frosted glass entry door.
