As people bring home more work or spend more time in front of computers, the chair that is used ends up being of great significance.  A good posture is important to remain healthy and an ergonomic chair is one way of achieving this.  A spine that is in the correct alignment and correctly supported will stop tension from building up in the neck and back and also take pressure off your internal organs.

Tips for Choosing Ergonomic Chairs

When it comes to chairs, there are some great tips for choosing the one that is right for you.  These include:

Adjustable height -- the seat needs to be adjustable so that you can have the chair at the correct height for you.  It is advantageous if it is available in a range of heights if more than one person will be using it.

A comfortable seat -- the seat should feel comfortable to sit in, and not be too long.  If it is to longs, it will catch you behind the knees or won't let you fully lean back into the lumbar support.  It should also be contoured so that your weight is evenly distributed.

Lumbar support -- this is an important component of any ergonomic chair.  Ensure your chair has cushioned lumbar support that is adjustable forwards, backwards, up, and down so that it fits to and supports your lumbar area.

Back support -- as well as lumbar support, the chair back should be large enough to support both your mid and upper back.

Movable backrest -- ensure that your chair has a backrest that will move with you and support you in a variety of different positions. A chair that locks into one backrest position may cause discomfort after a while.

Mobility -- if being able to move in your chair is important, you need a chair with smooth castors and a smooth swivel base.  This will stop you from possibly over-reaching to get something or perform a task.

Armrests -- if you need armrests, ensure that they are comfortably placed and can be adjusted.
