Decorating Your Verandah

Your verandah is an excellent place to enjoy the great outdoors but it can be a little boring if you don’t have it decorated properly. Turn your verandah into a stylish and beautiful outdoor room by decorating it to your tastes. Here are some handy hints to get you started.
Potted Colour is Very Effective
One of the most popular ways to decorate a verandah is by using potted colour – that is, plants and flowers that are in pots. You can place these wherever you like and they are completely portable, so you can change the layout in minutes. If you are using pot plants for decoration, don’t just look at the plants. Of course, you will want plants that thrive on your balcony, providing not only beautiful greenery but gorgeous blooms but they are not the only thing to consider. The pots that you use will make a big difference as well, as they provide a kind of “frame” to your plants and they can become a feature in themselves. The size of the pots is also important as you want them to be big enough for the plants to grow happily but not so big that they overwhelm the verandah.
Lighting as Verandah Decoration
Lighting is important on your verandah from a purely practical point of view but do not underestimate how decorative it can be. Fairy lights look amazing when draped from the roof or supporting poles, and you can use lanterns, torches, or candles to create an amazing flickering light. As well, you can use table or floor lamps to create localised light that both creates atmosphere and gives you the lighting you need to read, eat, or perform other tasks. To improve ambience, look for lamps that can be dimmable.
Outdoor Furniture to Decorate Your Verandah
Many people think that just a table and chairs is enough for a verandah but the right outdoor furniture can make a huge difference to how your verandah looks and feels, as well as to how you use your verandah. There is a huge range to choose from – dining settings, outdoor lounges, hammocks, arm chairs, coffee tables, side tables, ottomans, bench seats, daybeds, and more in a range of materials including fabrics, wood, steel, glass, plastic, resin, wicker, or a combination of these. Look for outdoor furniture that complements the space well both in style and function. For example, if you have a large, wraparound verandah, you might want to combine a large dining setting, with a modular outdoor lounge and a daybed in one corner. For a smaller verandah, a cosy armchair with a two seater dining setting may be ideal.
Accessorise the Verandah
One thing that you can do to easily decorate your verandah is to accessorise. The beauty of using accessories is that you can do exactly as you want no matter how small or large your budget is. Just some accessories that you could use include table linen, cushions, throw rugs, outdoor rugs, artworks, candelabras and candle holders, and ornaments. Best of all, accessories are temporary so you can change them according to trends or personal tastes.
