The first thing that you do when you step out of the bath or shower is to wrap yourself up in a towel. Why settle for thin, small towels that don’t absorb water very well at all? It’s far more pleasant to take the time to get the right towels for your bathroom – ones that work brilliantly but that also look fabulous! Here are our hints and tips for choosing the perfect towels. For more advice, have a chat with a local bathroom accessories
Buy Good Quality Bath Towels
To get the perfect towel, you really do need to look at the quality. The quality of the towel is determined by two main things – the GSM (grams per square metre), and the type of material it is made from. The GSM is huge as it determines the density of the towel (how absorbent it is) and the higher the GSM, the better the towel is. Look for towels that are least 550gsm. You’ll also want to look at the material of the towel. Generally speaking cotton towels are best with Egyptian or Supima cotton being the absolute pinnacle of quality. You can now also get bamboo towels which are actually a mix of bamboo and cotton fibres and these feel beautifully soft and silky.
Have a Good Look in Store
To ensure that you’re getting the towels that you love, you have to spend some time looking at them before you buy. Don’t be afraid to unfold the towels and hold them against you to make sure that they’re a good size for you. Check out the fibres of the towel as well. Ideally, they’ll all be standing up nice and straight, and not look flattened in any way. Finally, feel the towel. It should feel soft and velvety and be heavy to the touch.
Check Out the Price
Just like anything else you buy, towels of good quality will cost more. Don’t let the price put you off though. Good towels are more expensive but they will last for much longer without wearing, so they’re much better value over time. Don’t forget that many stores often hold excellent specials, with offers such as towels at up to half price or more, so that is an excellent time to stock up!
Don’t Forget the Colour!
Finally, don’t forget the colour of the towel when you’re making your choice. Keep your existing bathroom decor in mind when you are shopping and look for towels that compliment this. Classic white is always a great choice (and they’re easily bleached if they get stained) as are neutrals but many bathrooms benefit from a pop of bright colour.
