Moving home is one of the most stressful things that you can go through. Take some of the stress away by choosing a removal company
that you can trust and rely on. It can however be difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff so we’ve put together this guide to help you choose the removal company that is right for you. Read on for more information.
What Does the Removal Company Provide?
Perhaps the first thing that you will want to look at is what services the removal company will actually provide. Some common things that removal companies can offer you include:
- The supply of boxes, tape, bubble wrap, paper and other packing materials
- Supply of furniture covers
- Supply of special materials to move expensive electronic equipment such as TVs and PCs
- Packing services (these range from basic truck loading through to packing your entire home for you)
- Transport of your belongings to short term storage if required
- Moving your items as far as necessary (locally, interstate etc)
- Disassembling and reassembling of furniture
- Unpacking all of your items in the new home and disposing of boxes and packing materials
If you are prepared to do most of the work associated with moving yourself, you might only need a company to physically move your goods from your old home to your new one. However, if the thought of having to pack, move and unpack again terrifies you, you may benefit much more from a full service removalist.
What Insurance Do They Offer?
Moving house is a very large undertaking and no matter how careful your removalists are, there is the chance that something could get broken or damaged during transit. Ideally, nothing will happen but it is wise to prepare for the worst. After all, moving is expensive enough without having to worry about finding money to replace your display cabinet, or your still new TV! Do this by asking what insurance the removal company provides, and at what cost. All good removal companies will happily offer you moving insurance to protect your belongings while they are being transported. Also be aware that some home contents insurers may insure your property while it is being moved as wel
How Much Do They Charge?
Another thing to look out for when you are choosing a removal company is how much they charge. You’ll want to get a number of like for like quotes when you are moving. That is, you’ll want each company to quote on exactly the same thing, so that you can get an accurate comparison of their costs. Don’t automatically go for the cheapest quote that you get, and don’t necessarily go for the most expensive one either. Choose a quote that you feel represents value for money and, more importantly, that comes from a company that you feel confident with!
Can They Move You According to Your Schedule?
Finally, make sure that the removal company can work to your schedule. That is, they need to be able to pick up your stuff on time but also promise to have it delivered on time as well. After all, there’s nothing worse than being stuck eating takeaway and sleeping on the floor for a few nights all because your removalist is running late! Always talk out your moving schedule and expectations with your removal company before you book them. Also remember to ask them what will happen if there are delays – will they compensate you in any way at all?
