Decorative Ceiling Roses

Jun 9, 2010 by

Topic: Ceilings

While you may think of your ceilings as just being there, you don’t have to leave them plain and boring. A little bit of ornamentation on your ceiling can work wonders for the feel of your home and one great way to achieve this is by using a ceiling rose. Read on for more.

About Ceiling Roses

A ceiling rose is generally defined as a decorative element that is fixed to a ceiling. Often a light fitting or chandelier is suspended from it to make it even more beautiful. Ceiling roses are generally made from plasterboard but there are some newer options available.

Your ceiling rose is generally round in shape but it can be oval, or have decorative parts extending out from the main rose. You can choose from a huge range of designs such as art deco, traditional and modern, and they can be simple or extremely ornate. The ceiling rose can be painted the same colour as the rest of the ceiling but you can also choose to have it painted in the colours that you wish in order to highlight the pattern. For example, you might use different shades of green for any leaves, reds for flowers and so on.

The ceiling rose can be the sole decorative element on your ceiling but they look even more fantastic if you complement them with other trims and mouldings such as cornices, architraves, and so forth. Having a ceiling rose is also the perfect way to set off your decorative light fitting – a beautiful pendant or chandelier – but you do need to have an electrician do any wiring work that is associated with fitting the new lights.

Installing Ceiling Roses

If you are fairly confident in working with plaster, you can install the ceiling rose yourself but your plasterer is trained and experienced with installing decorative elements such as these and thus will ensure that you get an amazing finish. With professional installation, you’d never be able to tell that the ceiling rose is an addition as it will look like it’s always been part of the ceiling.
