Topic: Water Tanks
The National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative provides households with a rebate of up to $500 on the purchase and installation of a rainwater tank or permanent greywater treatment system. The system needs to have been purchased after 30 January 2009 and you must apply for the rebate within six months of purchasing your system. If you are claiming for a rainwater tank, it must be plumbed in by a professional for the internal use of the water for toilet and/or laundry purposes. The rebate is planned to be in effect until March 2014
If you own an existing home (i.e. not in the process of building a new one) and it is your principal place of residence, you may apply for the rebate after you have installed an eligible greywater system. You should be aware that system suppliers and tradespeople are unable to apply for the rebate on your behalf.
For this Australian Government rebate program, the rebates offered following the installation of approved rainwater tanks are:
| Rainwater tank(s) 2,000 - 3,999 litres | $400 |
| Rainwater tank(s) 4,000 litres or larger | $500 |
| Permanent greywater treatment system | $500 |
State governments and/or Local Government bodies recognise the importance of collecting and saving water, and many have introduced their own rebate schemes which you can normally claim for on top of the National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative. You may be eligible to receive rebates from at the national, state and local government levels. For details check your relevant government authority.
